This is a field of native grapes grown on hand-built schist terraces, the kind of steep, stubborn vineyard machines cannot reach. Bright, mineral and a little wild, it is a white for anyone who thinks they already know Portuguese wine.

Socalcos da Carris takes its name from the socalcos, the hand-built schist terraces that step down to the Douro river. The old vines grow where machines cannot reach, so every row is tended by hand, the way this valley has farmed for generations.
